A unique, new web site called Global Wave Statistics Online (globalwavestatisticsonline.com), designed to give comprehensive information on the wave and wind climate across the world has been launched today by British Maritime Technology’s subsidiary BMT Fluid Mechanics.
Global Wave Statistics Online is the only web site giving on-line access to 130 years of recorded observations from ships, which have been enhanced using the well-known NMIMET process. As well as providing wind and wave information across the world in 104 sea areas, the program has an additional database with a higher spatial resolution for the North European Continental Shelf.
Stephen Rowe, Managing Director of BMT Fluid Mechanics, said: “We have invested a considerable amount of effort and care in establishing this web site and we are confident that users will find it straightforward and accessible. Information is delivered quickly and users can select it to suit their individual needs. This will provide cost savings and efficiencies over time as individuals can assemble a personal data base that will always be available to them online.”
Registered users can select and purchase data sets for individual sea areas and have the wave climate data immediately displayed and available for download to their PC for further analysis or input to other user applications. The data can be purchased online using a credit card and then remains available for use on subsequent visits to the site. The web site is an enhanced, Internet version of the popular Global Wave Statistics book and is the successor to the computer software version PC Global Wave Statistics.
